Configuring Service Charges on Cards The Stored Value Service Charge tab enables you to decrease the balance of a Stored Value card after a specified amount of time, either from the last time the card was used, or from the date of the card purchase. Because service charges may not be appropriate in all states, you can limit the service charge to a specific group of stores. Service Charge — Enables you to set up a service charge for this card type. When you select this check box, you must confirm that you want to enact the service charge, as service charges are not legal in all states. Check the laws in the states in which you have stores to determine what is acceptable and not acceptable. Deduct () every () from the card balance: — When you select ‘Service Charge,’ you must specify the amount to deduct from the Stored Value card balance, and select the frequency of the service charge from the drop-down list. Day — Deducts the service charge on a daily basis. Week — Deducts the service charge on a weekly basis. Month — Deducts the service charge on a monthly basis. This is the default selection. Year — Deducts the service charge on a yearly basis. Then determine when to deduct the service charge based on one of the following: If the card is unused for () () — Specifies the card decreases in value when it is not used for the defined amount of time. The time defaults to ‘12’ ‘Months.’ If you need to select a different time period, type the number in the text box, and then select one of the following from the frequency drop-down list: Days — Specifies days as the frequency for the service charge. Weeks — Specifies weeks as the frequency for the service charge. Months — Specifies months as the frequency for the service charge. Years — Specifies years as the frequency for the service charge. Dormancy fee, also known as an inactivity fees, or servcie fees can no longer be imposed on the card unless there has been no activity in a 12 month period, after which, only one such fee can be assessed per month. Reset the service charge interval if card is used — Specifies the service charge time interval resets when a cardholder uses their Stored Value card. When the cardholder uses their Stored Value card after a service charge has been applied, the service charge interval resets and the service charge no longer applies until the service charge period has been met again. Reporting Define the store the service charge fee reports against. You can charge the fee against the store where the last transaction occurred, or create a corporate store that accepts all service charge fees. This enables Aloha Insight to report the service charge fees on reports and a way for you to reconcile your Stored Value card program. Store where most recent sale/add value occurred — Indicates the service charge reports against the store that last posted an add value or sale on the Stored Value card. Selected Store — Indicates all service charges report against a specific store. For example, you can create a corporate store that incurs all service charges. Select the store from the drop-down list. Date Settings Select the date the service charge goes into effect. Begin Service Charge on — Specifies the date the service charge goes into effect. Typically, you set the ‘Begin Service Charge on’ date to the current date or to the same date in the ‘Cards can be sold starting on’ text box on the Stored Value Settings tab. You can apply a service charge to an existing gift card, by entering a date prior to the current date. Type the date the existing gift card was available to sell in the text box. The date entered is the date on which the service charge goes into effect. The system will check to see if any gift cards meet the criteria you set for the service charge and apply the service charge appropriately. This process takes place behind the scenes without any user input. Because this is a process that runs behind the scenes on the server, you could experience a slight delay in when the service charge takes effect and appears on a report. Store Settings You define the stores that sell Stored Value cards that can incur a service charge. Be aware that service charges are not valid in all states. If you have stores in states that can charge service charges and states that do allow service charges, create a replication group with the stores that can charge service charges. This enables you to sell the same Stored Value card in all your stores, and charge service charges where applicable. All Stores — Specifies that a service charge applies to Stored Value cards sold in all stores. Stores in this Replication Group — Specifies that a service charge applies only to stores within the selected replication group.
